Elizabeth Stride was born Elisabeth Gustafsdotter on November 27, 1843 on a farm called Stora Tumlehed in Torslanda parish, north of Gothenburg, Sweden. Elizabeth Stride was last seen by Israel Schwartz, just after midnight, when a man stopped to speak to her, then pulled her into the street and threw her onto the sidewalk. There was a second man nearby, lighting a cigarette. Fearing trouble, Schwartz ran away. Elizabeth Stride was never seen alive again. Elizabeth Stride was born in Sweden in 1843 and moved to London in February, 1866. She married John Thomas Stride on 7th March, 1869 and the couple moved to Poplar, East End of London. She would later claim that her husband and two children were drowned in the Princess Alice disaster in 1878, a claim that is provably untrue; Swedish-born Elizabeth Stride was an immigrant, like thousands of others who lived in the East End. Born in 1843, she came to England when she was 22.
